I graduated in 1983 with a Bachelor of Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. Later I have also obtained MSc and DSc degrees from COPPE — System Engineering and Computer Science Program in the year of 1991 and 2000, respectively. I used to work by Cobra - Brazilian Computers from 1984 to 1986 in the development of parallel computers. I also worked as researcher in the area of Computer Architecture by NCE-UFRJ until 2006. During this period I worked with some parallel computers projects, such as Pegasus, Multiplus and NCP II, the last one developed at COPPE/Sistemas.
I am currently professor and head of department at the Department of Computer Science from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. My area of research is Operating Systems and Computer Architecture in the following topics: computer architecture, microprocessor architecture and high performance computing. I am also the coordinator of the project Netuno, an HPC cluster installed at NCE/UFRJ that is currently ranked on Top500 as the fatest system in Brazil and Latin America. Netuno is equipped with 256 nodes, each one with two quad-core processors, 16 GB of memory and an Infiniband HCA board. This performs a total of 2048 processors and 4 TB of memory, with a sustained Linpack performance of 16.2 GFlops.
